Internet Presence
Your business’s Internet Presence or Internet Footprint consists of two things:
- How visible is your company on the Internet? How likely is it that someone will find you?
and
- What impression does someone get when they find your company online?
Think in terms of percentages. Out of every 100% of people searching for your company, or the products or services you offer, what percentage find you? And of those, what percentage get a positive impression?
If half don’t find you or don’t get a positive impression, you are missing out on half the potential of what new business you could be generating online. If only 2% find you, you are missing out on 98%. Many businesses are missing out on upwards of 99% of their online potential.
That can be – often is – huge. More and more, the world looks online.
Increasing your Internet Presence is usually the least expensive way to make yourself and your products or services known.
Where Does Your Internet Presence Come From
You can have an Internet Presence because of your website, because of postings on Facebook or blogs, because of what others have to say about your company, or even because of other companies with the same name who may be confused with yours.
Someone looking may do a search on Google or other search engines. Or, they can go to a directory or portal such as a Yellow Pages site, or industry specific or local directory listings.
They may find you because of publicity such as newspaper articles or press releases.
Impressions can be positive, neutral or negative. Most Internet Presences are neutral. Even if they can find you, nothing they see makes them want to click through to your website or pick up the phone and call you!
What’s Your Internet Presence?
What happens when you try to find your company? Perhaps it is easily found under the company name, but not in a search for your product or service – where competitors show up but you don’t.
If that is the case, you are missing a big boat. There could be dozens or even hundreds of thousands of people trying to find your products or services online, every month. I guarantee there are some – probably more than you think.
Now when you do find something about yourself or your company online, is it your own material – on your website or others? Or material from others who like you? Or do you find material placed online by someone who has less than flattering things to say?
Or as is too often the case, is it just blah blah boring that won’t stimulate anyone’s interest?
This also applies to you personally. Some individuals have an Internet Presence dominated by the negative .
The solution in any case is to INCREASE your Internet Presence. If there is bad news out there, drown it out. And in general, to make yourself more visible.
For the great majority of companies, there is no more inexpensive way to make yourself known and to increase your new business than by increasing your Internet Presence.
